Refuge reading analysis

The rhythm of this essay is very unique. I thought that the author had an interesting way of writing, it was like he was just talking more than telling a story. I feel like he is almost random with some of the things he has to say. The author tells the reader info that she/he may not necessarily need to know. The effectiveness of this type of writing is that the reader gets a very clear visual of what the author is talking about.. in this sense "the refuge." There is a wide variety in sentence structure: Throughout the story the author uses a lot of short choppy sentences which work effectively. The effectiveness of using short choppy sentences is to give a clear abrupt understanding of what is being explained. It almost makes the reader take a break from the reading, short sentence after short sentence sometimes the sentences only containing one word, gives the reader a chance to visualize and process what is being said. I think the way in which the author chose to write this piece was effective because it created the right tone for the essay.
